Hi, I’m Claire — the person behind StartCrocheting.
StartCrocheting is where I share small, beginner-friendly crochet projects, simple stitch guides, and honest notes from my own learning process. I write for people who want crochet to feel less intimidating, more understandable, and a little more joyful.

My crochet journey did not begin with perfect projects. It began with tangled yarn, uneven stitches, loose tension, and more than a few moments of wondering why my work looked so different from the tutorial photo.
That is one reason I created StartCrocheting. When I was learning, I often wished tutorials would slow down and explain the small details beginners actually struggle with — where to insert the hook, why a round starts curling, how tight the stitches should feel, or what to do when a project looks strange halfway through.
This site focuses on small crochet projects that feel realistic for beginners: mini amigurumi pieces, simple keychains, tiny fruit and animal patterns, easy coasters, small pouches, and basic stitch practice projects. I like projects that are short enough to finish, but still useful enough to teach something new.
Most of the guides here are written from a learner’s point of view. I explain the materials I used, the stitch choices, the parts that may confuse beginners, and the small adjustments that made the project easier for me. When something is tricky, I try to say that clearly instead of making the pattern sound easier than it is.
StartCrocheting is not meant to be a formal design studio or a place for advanced, complicated patterns. It is a beginner crochet blog built around practice, patience, and small wins. My goal is to help you finish your first few projects with less frustration and more confidence.
If you are new to crochet, a good place to begin is the Start Here page. You can also browse the First Projects section if you want something small and manageable to make next.
For me, crochet is a way to slow down. One stitch leads to another, and before long, something small exists in my hands that was not there before. That quiet feeling is what keeps me coming back to the hook.
If you are just starting your crochet journey, or if you are still wondering whether you are doing it right, I hope this site feels like a calm place to learn one stitch at a time.
You do not have to be perfect to keep going.
I’m learning, making, undoing, and trying again — and I’m really glad you’re here with me.
